Two of Nigeria’s leading brands, Pepsi and Airtel have
announced a consumer promotion to reward customers for their loyalty and ensure
they begin the new year on a high.
Addressing a press conference at Sheraton Hotels and Towers
in Lagos, both organisations said the
partnership will see Nigerian consumers
winning airtime for every glass bottle of Pepsi, Mirinda, 7Up, Teem and
Mountain Dew purchased in the next 60 days.
Head of Marketing, Seven-Up Bottling Company Plc, makers of
Pepsi and other carbonated soft drinks, Mr. Norden Thurston said the
partnership with Airtel is aimed at giving the Nigerian consumer the best of
two worlds: refreshing with Pepsi, talking with Airtel.
Mr. Thurston said Pepsi is consumer-centric and continuously
striving to delight its consumers.
“Consumers are becoming more discerning and are beginning to
lose interest in promotions because they believe there is little chance of
winning,” Thurston said adding “with Pepsi/Airtel Promo, no try again, games of
chance, lotteries or lucky draw.” He
said Pepsi is happy to join hands with Airtel to offer Nigerians first of its
kind promotion in which everybody is a winner.
Commenting on the Pepsi/Airtel consumer promo, the General
Manager, Value Added Services Airtel Nigeria, Mr. Victor Bannerman-Chedid said,
“the partnership between Pepsi and Airtel, two of Nigeria’s leading brands is
one of the most exciting things to happen to the Nigerian consumer in recent
time. We are happy to begin the New Year on a very promising and positive note
for the good of the Nigerian consumer. We recognize their importance and the
immense roles they play in the success or our businesses.”
Speaking further on the modalities for the promotion,
Bannerman explained that there is a free one-minute voice Airtel airtime for
every Seven-Up Bottling Company products purchased during the promo, which can
be redeemed for Airtel to Airtel calls by loading the PIN and dialing your
phone. He said the one minute free airtime can be exchanged for a new SIM card
for those who are not on Airtel network. Consumers can redeem up to three free
airtime crowns per day and each recharge is valid for three days.
Most industry watchers believe that the synergy between Pepsi
and Airtel is good for the Nigerian economy and re-enforces the marketing
cliché that the consumer is king.
